Its knitting time!

One of the centre mothers, Debbie, very generously volunteered her time on Wednesday 2 September to run a knitting class with a group of children. The craft table was full with busy children concentrating hard on learning this new skill. Many of the children spent a long time practising their knitting. Debbie was very patient as she helped and encouraged the busy knitters.

Thank you Debbie for not only volunteering your time but also for your generous donation of wool and needles to the centre.

Fun Times!

Natalie has been programming extra play time at the big fort and back oval as many of the children have requested to play there more often. Above are some wonderful photos of your children that we wanted to share with you.

Wild About Reading!

The centre's outside veranda was full on Thursday afternoon with 'Book Safari' festivities. Celebrating its 64th birthday, 'Book Safari' is part of the national 'Book Week' campaign, the longest running children's festival in Australia. There were picnic rugs, pillows, jungle decorations and a range of books from the centre's library and the Gladesville Library. The children took advantage of the warm weather to lay back, put their feet up and catch up on some reading.

An Eventful Week 3

Spring was definitely in the air, what wonderful weekend weather! We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. Last week flew by quickly and the children spent lots of afternoons outdoors down at the back oval, playing on the fort equipment or joining in the soccer matches.

An email was sent to all parents last week about knitting and paper donations, below is a recap:

KNITTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Are you a knitter, do you have a grandparent that is a knitter with plenty of patience? We are seeking some brave knitting volunteers to come into the centre and teach the children to knit squares which will be donated to a worthy cause called Wrap with Love.

Wrap with Love Inc, is a voluntary organisation which started in 1992. Volunteers craft personal Wraps (rug), they knit, weave, patchwork or machine the wraps which are then sent abroad as gifts to communities.

Website:
www.artsandcraftnsw.com.au/Wrap.htm

If you would like to volunteer your time and you have some spare needles and wool please let me know.

A4 PAPER DONATIONS:

Do you have a ream or two of white paper you could donate to the centre? Our crafty children have been exceptionally busy and your donations get put to very good use, your support is much appreciated.

GPBASC has some very talented carpenters in the making! A group of children were very busy using the game Tap Tap Wednesday morning. Tap Tap was transformed into a beautiful country side with a duck pond, windmills and a big barn yard.

ALIENS GALORE! This craft during week one saw plastic bottles transformed into iridescent Alien species. These boys worked in partnership with one another with special attention to detail. Well done boys, FANTASTIC TEAM WORK!!!

The Talent Quest was a wonderful experience for all the very talented children involved. These talents ranged from ballet, hip hop, violin, guitar, mime artists and stand up comedians. All the children who participated were winners and the smiles on their faces said it all.

Space Odyssey

In just one week the Space Odyssey theme has taken flight. The creation of foil aliens last week was lots of fun and has been programmed again this week due to popular demand. It was also great to see Tayne and Matt working as a team to create a fantastic piece of Space artwork, which is on display at the centre.

School Holiday Resources

With the winter holidays almost upon us we have found a few websites that may help you find suitable activities to keep your children busy and active.

www.kidsholidayactivities.com.au - This website features school holiday programs, activities, events, vacation care, entertainment, things to do and see during the school holiday season.

www.schoolholidaydirectory.com.au - The School Holiday Directory connects school kids and their families with a range of kids activities and things to do over the school holidays and great school holiday activities. So get off the couch, turn off the TV, your school holiday ideas are here.

Parenting and Child Health - This website offers some suggestions that don't cost much and are probably most useful for children in the early to middle primary school age group. The suggestions cover:
  • Holiday boredom

Thank you to all those parents that completed mini surveys about the centres Program over the past few weeks. The evaluated surveys showed that overall people were very happy with the Program and gave positive comments. However we found that many parents did not know where the Program was located at the centre.

The Program, Menu, Philosophy & Birthday Chart is located at the centre on the notice board near the hallway.
